| Spring Lake Bullheads |
The major fish kill of four years ago created a number of challenges for Spring Lake. Prior to that time, we enjoyed a large Bass population. The fish kill changed that: We lost the majority of the Bass, and the Bullhead population exploded. Not good. The Bullheads are bottom feeders and tend to mess up the clarity of the water. Because the Bass feed on the Bullheads and the Bluegills, there is a tentative plan to add more Bass this fall to control the Bullhead population naturally, but as residents we can help out by not putting Bullheads back into the lake when we catch them.
Check out Greg Langenfeld's device for catching multiple Bullheads. The idea is to lower the net into the water, then place bait (plastic bags of dog food with holes cut into the bags to allow the food to flow out) to attract the fish. This is how our Board of Directors spends Sunday afternoons, according to BOD President Dave Petersen. Go BOD!!
