She's baaaack....

...but I doubt that we'll see much of the Great Blue Heron this summer because fish are in short supply in Spring Lake, due in part to the winter fish kill. I've read that these herons will also take down frogs, large insects, crawfish, snakes, turtles, even chipmunks and squirrels. But I've only witnessed them enjoying a gulp of fish in years past. The stealth with which they approach a meal is a treat to watch as they patiently walk, wait, crouch, wait some more...then BAM! Bluegill for lunch! I wish we had more to offer them this summer, but alas, the Spring Lake Sushi Bar is bare.
This majestic creature walked the shoreline for a short time today, very quickly sized up the no-fish situation, then flew up and over the house in typical pterodactyl fashion. Wow...that 7-foot wingspan is awesome!
