Male and Female Hooded Mergansers

Evidence that the spring migration has resumed is the sighting of Hooded Mergansers on the lake this morning. Beautiful, aren't they? I counted five pairs! These are fish-eating ducks, possibly on their way to northern breeding grounds. Perhaps their visit to the lake indicates that many fish survived the winter this year.
