Progress

When I emailed the photo of the first baby robin, I was reminded that less than 30% of them actually make it to adulthood. That means only one of these babies will possibly reach that stage. Some never emerge from the egg; others are carried off by predators; and some are abandoned as "weaklings," tossed from the nest by their parents. I know this, and yet I'm optimistic. Every day is a measure of progress. Ever wonder what happens to the eggshells after the chicks hatch? The parents remove the eggshells and carry them far away from the nest so that predators aren't clued in to the nest's location.
