American Bitterns have great camouflage and are tough to spot...but there they were!

Gunk, Herons, and Bitterns...
The resurgence of algae and dead plant matter in the lake this week didn't discourage this Great Blue Heron, who waded through the gunk in search of fish. Once the shoreline was raked, we were treated to a visit from several smaller herons--a Least Bittern, which flew off before I could grab my camera, and two American Bitterns.
