If you enjoy watching and feeding birds, you probably aren't a fan of the Gray Squirrel population that seems to have exploded in our neighborhood of mature trees. It just goes with the territory. So far, they haven't invaded the bird feeder. I caught this one nibbling on the crab apples and berries left on trees near the house. When food becomes more scarce due to snow cover, you can sometimes entice them away from the feeder by putting cobs of dried corn a good distance away. That, and the hickory nuts you can collect from local trees. It's worth a try.
