Cowbird coup!

They did it again, those nest parasites! Three small finch eggs and two cowbird eggs are in the finch nest. Brown-headed cowbirds lay their eggs in a nest prepared by another bird, and because cowbird eggs require less incubation time, they usually hatch first and command more food, jeopardizing the success of the foster parents' offspring. Not fair! I've read that if you remove the cowbird eggs (which is also illegal), the female cowbird will return to the nest and destroy it...and the remaining eggs. Any way you look at it, this can't have a good ending. Stay tuned.

Stuff happens.
