New nest, new tenants

No news to report on the finch nest. Still 2 unattended eggs. But now we have Mourning Doves nesting on our porch lantern. These doves are typically messy nest builders, and there are actually more twigs on the ground below it than there are in the nest. Here's the description from Cornell's "All About Birds" website: "A flimsy assembly of pine needles, twigs, and grass stems, unlined and with little insulation for the young. Over 2-4 days, the male carries twigs to the female, passing them to her while standing on her back; the female weaves them into a nest about 8 inches across." Clutch size is generally 2 eggs. Stay tuned.

Female keeping an eye on me at the window.

Male atop female, ready to pass a new twig to her.
