I was out on my kayak last week and noticed 3" painted turtles sunning on logs. Years ago I saw much bigger ones in the pond, but this year, all I see are the small ones. I am glad we have some turtles out there. But does anyone know what happened to the bigger ones? Did we have some sort of die-off?
Earlier this summer, we saw 6-inch turtles sunning on logs. Turtles typically would not be affected by a winter fish kill since they hibernate or "brumate" in the pond muck and require very little oxygen to survive. So hopefully they're still with us...somewhere. Will be on the lookout!
