Do you remember?
When we first moved to Spring Lake, there were swans in our lake-- so peaceful, so beautiful. :) Their presence added to the lovely ambiance of our water setting. The swans would "disappear" every fall and return every spring. They would have cygnets -- posing in this photo -- which would eventually "disappear" as well. Two was the magic number for swans on Spring Lake. Eventually with more lake action of the aluminum and plastic kind, there evolved swan interactions and even clashes. Paddle boats would be attacked with outspread wings and intruders escorted away from a near by nest or "protected area." We among many of our neighbors were on the swans' "bad list." :) We watched "show time" from our windows as kids -- and even adults -- in canoes were challenged by the swans, ending in toppled boats and many "expected" wins for the swans. Unfortunately too much action of this kind caused the swan invitation to Spring Lake to be revoked and all the swans "disappeared." Now the only swans we might see here would be "fly-by's" -- not residents. We miss Spring Lake's "Swan Song," but memories and swan stories keep them ever present. :)
