Cormorant Sighting

Double-crested Cormorant
In twenty years of observing wildlife on Spring Lake, this is the first time we've seen a Cormorant. The day that the skies began to fill with the remnants of Isaac, this large (36") and gangly black bird with a yellow-orange face and hooked bill perched on an island tree. The silhouette was unmistakable; binoculars confirmed it. The fuzzy photo was the best my iphone could muster at such a distance. It had to be the Double-crested Cormorant since that's the only species seen in this part of the country. We're at the southern edge of its summer range.
